Letter to "Bro. Weeks" from Maurine Whipple dated October 17th, 1941. Address line reads, "Hollywood, St. Joe's Office" and Maurine signs off, "Sincerely, your sister in the gospel".
Maurine Whipple Maurine Whipple won the Houghton Mifflin Literary Prize for 1938 to help her complete her novel The Giant Joshua, which appeared in 1941. She is from St. George, Utah, the setting of her novel, considered one of the most important Mormon works of fiction for its vivid portrayal of pioneer and polygamous life. A writer and lecturer, Whipple also wrote This is the Place: Utah (Knopf, 1945) and published articles in Collier's, the Saturday Evening Post, Look, Life, Time, Pageant, and numerous other journals and periodicals. |
