DES MOINES, IA (September 2017) –Salisbury House Foundation (SHF) is pleased to announce the 2017-2018 season of the Winifred M. Kelley Music Series at Salisbury House. This series honors the legacy of Winifred M. Kelley, a long-time advocate and devotee of The Music Series at Salisbury House. The musical series features intimate performances by some of the region’s finest musicians presented in the Common Room at Salisbury House.

“We are so happy to honor the legacy of Mrs. Kelley through our Music Series.  Not only was she an ardent lover of music and our Music Series, but she was a pillar of our community and an extraordinary person,said Kit Curran, Executive Director at Salisbury House.

Tickets to each performance can be purchased online at salisburyhouse.org or by calling 515-274-1777. The performances, dates, and times are as follows:

Thursday, October 12 at 7:00pm - The Aspen String Trio perform complete trios of Beethoven, Mozart, and Schubert, as well as lesser known works by Dohnanyi, Hindemith, Martinu, Rozsa, Veress, and Ysaÿe, among others.  David Perry, violin; Victoria Chiang, viola; and Michael Mermagen, cello.

Thursday, November 9 at 7:00pm -  The Iowa Chamber Players perform Overture for Winds by Felix Mendelssohn, Serenade by Arthur Bird, Petite Symphonie by Charles Gounod and Old Wine in New Bottles by Gordon Jacob.

Wednesday, December 6 at 7:00pm - A festive Holiday Concert featuring popular sounds of the season performed by Kristin Maahs, Harp; Jennifer Wohlenhaus-Bloomburg, Oboe; Clarence Padilla, Clarinet; Kim Helton, Flute; and Timothy Gale, bassoon.

Thursday, March 8 at 7:00pm - Dr. Leslie Marrs and Dr. Nancy Schneeloch-Bingham present a duo flute concert with selections from their new CD including Jindrich Feld's Duo Concertante and the title piece, Matthew Quayle's Night Owls.

Thursday, April 5 at 7:00pm - Jonathan Sturm and Gregory Maytan present a duo recital for two violins and violin/viola featuring the music of Mozart, Prokofiev, Wilhelm Petersohn-Berger and Johann Halvorsen.

Thursday, May 10 at 7:00pm - Mezzo-Soprano Megan Ihnen and violist Michael Hall perform a program of diverse works featuring contemporary composers Mara Gibson, Garrett Schumann, Christian Carey, Jessica Rudman, and Jessica Meyer.

The Winifred M. Kelley Music Series at Salisbury House is made possible through generous lead gifts made by Andrea Westmeyer, Brenton Foundation, Confluence, and James Windsor.
Special thanks to David Liljedahl and Rieman Music for the expert care of the Steinway model D concert grand piano.

Salisbury House & Gardens is a private, non-profit organization governed by the Salisbury House Foundation. Des Moines, Iowa- The Salisbury House Foundation is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a $5,000 grant through Prairie Meadow’s 2017 Community Betterment Grant program. Grant funds will support Salisbury House Foundation’s Community Arts Connection (CAC) program and will enable expanded outreach efforts to traditionally underserved populations.

The CAC program has grown out of Salisbury House Foundation’s (SHF) belief that art, culture, and history are vital to the health of our community. Through the CAC, SHF provides regular educational and cultural programming as well as hosts over 20 public events each year. In alignment with the organizational mission, SHF offers our collections to community institutions as an academic resource, educating school groups, home school groups, college students and adult learners. With the support of Prairie Meadows, the CAC program will strengthen existing partnerships with local schools and organizations, bolster outreach efforts to alternative education groups, and continue to provide affordable cultural experiences to the broader community.

The Prairie Meadows Community Betterment program improves the lives of people in their communities by supporting the work of local organizations. This generous award by Prairie Meadows enables Salisbury House Foundation to continue fulfilling its mission by sharing unforgettable cultural experiences to the Greater Des Moines area and guests from around the world.
